business planning tips

Another quarter has already started, which is hard to believe, considering it still feels like the beginning of the year! But I have a question for you…Did you achieve everything you wanted to in the last quarter? If the answer is no, ask yourself, ‘Why not?’
It can be hard to prioritise when it comes to working on your business planning, especially as a solopreneur.

That’s why the first thing you should do is to set yourself some SMART goals that you would like to achieve by the end of the quarter. In this article, I will be sharing my top 5 tips to help you get organised and progress on your path to success for the next 90 days!

Quarterly business planning

Set your goals

By determining your goals for this quarter, you will have a clear vision of what exactly you want to achieve.

Look at your 2022 goals and think to yourself “by the end of this quarter, what do I want to achieve?”

Make sure to write them down to show your commitment towards these goals, and create a vision board that you can look back on – whatever it is that allows you to commit yourself.

Having them concrete allows you to refer back to them continuously throughout the quarter and clarify what you want to be successful at.

Know ‘your WHY’

Assess each goal and write down how achieving that goal will benefit you and your business. This is your ‘WHY’:

  • Why do you want to achieve those goals?
  • Why is it important to you?
  • Why do you care?

Understanding and clarifying ‘your why’ is imperative to keep you focused and aligned within your business. Because it is about understanding why you want to be successful and want to achieve that goal that you’re working hard for.

It doesn’t just help you make sales within your business but also allows you to communicate clearly why you do what you do and allows others, including yourself, to see your business as a living entity. It gives it a purpose and will not be seen as just a hobby.

Prioritise your goals

After you have come up with your goals, it is essential to ask yourself – which one is the most important goal you want to achieve?

Rank your goals according to their importance and urgency. This will determine how much time and focus you will put in to accomplish each goal.

When doing this, go back to the previous step of knowing ‘your why’. Ask yourself ‘why is this most important’ vs ‘why is this least important.’ This will again bring clarity around your vision.

Goal prioritisation can lead to better productivity and less stress because you know what you need to do and have a clear timeline of when you need to get it done.

Additionally, prioritising your goals also allows you to complete what needs to be done in an orderly manner to achieve the goal in order of importance.

Set up a Plan for Action

To ensure you see success and achievement from your goals, it is vital to set up an actionable plan.

For each goal, write the steps you need to take to achieve that goal. That way, you know where to start and what you need to do to achieve the goal.

Then, for each step, write down what challenges you might face, what resources you need to combat those challenges, a deadline when you intend to complete this step, along with the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).

A KPI is a measurable value that indicates your progress towards an intended result.

Examples include conversion rate, follower growth, number of lead magnet downloads, etc.

After that, set your big deadline for each goal based on the plan you outlined at this stage.

Be realistic about this. If one of your goals has detailed steps involved with more challenges, this might take you longer to achieve and that’s okay! But you need to stay rational and practical.

Once this plan is ready, it will be easy for you to set your weekly and daily focus and stay on the right track and well-aligned with your quarterly goals.

You will know what steps you need to take and know when you intend to complete each step by.

Take Action

Now that your goals are set and you have clarity around priorities, and the steps you need to take to achieve each goal, it is time to implement your plan and measure progress each week.

Let me tell you, it is all well and good to have goals but it is a different thing to actually take action and make it happen!

Remember! It is up to you to ensure you achieve your goals. No one else!

So, don’t make it all a waste of time. Instead, take action towards being successful and achieving your quarterly goals.

Remember to keep your goals SMART…

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant and
  • Time-based

This way, you will be more likely to achieve them by the end of the second quarter!

Happy goal setting for the next quarter!
